3-4 Weeks Before Moving
- Notify your mover if there are any changes in the dates of your move. Also inform your mover if you will be in need of any additional services such as packing or storage.
- Obtain a change of address form from your local Post Office. You may also obtain this form online at the US Postal Service website at www.usps.com
- Be sure to send out a change of address form or to notify the following people and businesses:
- Friends and Family
- Banks
- Credit Card Companies
- Doctors, Dentists, Veterinarians
- Insurance Companies
- Clubs or Associations
- Magazines and Newspaper Subscriptions
- Contact utilities (electric, gas, telephone, cable, etc…) to make arrangements for disconnection or transfer. Be sure to have your have them disconnected after your move-out day.
- Notify insurance companies of your move. Transfer all insurance on your home and possessions.
- Consider arranging to have a baby-sitter, friend or family member to watch your kids on moving day. This will help keep your children occupied and safe during the loading process.
- Return items that you have borrowed such as library books or your neighbor's tools, and collect items that you have loaned out or are being cleaned or repaired (clothing, shoes, watches, etc…).
- Arrange to have any necessary repairs around your home done.
- Make sure to make any necessary arrangements with building management for your move date. If you are moving into a building there may be restrictions as to when moving can be done, as well as it may be necessary to have an elevator ready for your use.
